1ST TAXATION & BUDGET COUNCIL MEETING 2025: KEY DISCUSSIONS AND INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT

On 24 Jan 2025, MICCI’s Taxation & Budget Council extends its heartfelt thanks to KPMG, especially Mr. Tai Lai Kok, Co-Chair, and the KPMG management team for hosting the committee meeting at their boardroom. The meeting, opened by Co-Chair Mr. Raja Kumaran, discussed key topics such as E-Invoicing implementation, the Post-Budget 2026 Forum, and strengthening engagement with the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
The committee members present included Mr. Thomas Cowie (Carlsberg), Ms. Yen Yin Leng (Nestlé), Mr. Zi Yao Lim (Philip Morris), Mr. Shaun Cheah (Salient Outcomes), Mr. Clement Stanly (Heineken), Ms. Nur Amira Ahmad Azhar (Rosli Dahlan), Ms. Kalsumawati (Shell), and new members: Ms. Nurulhanisah binti Musa (Control Union), Ms. Annie Thomas (PwC), Mr. Leeroy Ting (Carsome), Mr. Adil Amirullah (Shopee), Mr. Senthilathiban Thirunilakantan (DKSH), Mr. Jeffry Azraai Rosedin (JTI), Mr. Huey Chung Hor (Penang Port), Ms. Roslina (Penang Port), and Mr. Charith Fernando (Transnational).
The session also covered pressing issues such as the expansion of Service Tax and its impact on Free Trade Zones, concerns from port operators, and the increase in stamp duty rates.
The discussions were highly productive, with valuable contributions from all members. MICCI reaffirms its commitment to advocating for a fair and competitive business environment by addressing these critical issues with relevant authorities.
