CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION ACCCIM WITH PM ANWAR IBRAHIM

On 3rd February 2025, Mr. Han Ling, MICCI’s Executive Director, attended the Chinese New Year Reception hosted by the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This prestigious event was graced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and several key ministers, marking a significant occasion for the local business community.

One of the key announcements during the event was PM Anwar's affirmation of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contribution rate for foreign workers, which will remain at 2%. He reassured attendees that there are no plans to gradually increase the rate, dispelling concerns that it might rise to 4% or 6% in the future. PM Anwar explained that the initial proposal was for a 12% rate, but after careful review, the Cabinet decided to maintain the 2% contribution, ensuring it remains minimal and manageable.

The reception was a gathering of over 600 guests from various sectors and industries, offering a great opportunity for business networking. Key figures such as Federation of Sundry Goods Merchants Associations President Hong Chee Meng emphasized the importance of collaboration and highlighted the challenges and opportunities businesses will face this year.

With Prime Minister Anwar and other ministers in attendance, the event also provided a platform for discussing strategies to improve the business landscape and foster greater economic collaboration. It was a festive atmosphere, with booths offering dragon beard candy and Chinese calligraphy activities, allowing guests to enjoy traditional culture while engaging in discussions on business and growth.
